asher the tank engine

My Asher loves trains.  Especially Thomas and his friends.  His love started at an early age and one of his very first words was "gaba gaba Hoo Hoo" (chugga chugga choo choo).  Lately this love of his has started to really become part of who he is right now.  My favorite example:

On our way home from a friend's house.

Asher:  Where are we going?

Me: Home.

Asher:  I don't want to go home.  I want to go out.

Me: (as I am pulling up to the stop sign to turn towards home)  We need to go home and eat lunch now.

Asher:  No, I want to go out.  Switch the points!  Mom, switch the points!

For those that aren't fluent in rail yard "switching the points" refers to the the part of the track that can be moved to divert trains in a different direction.  I looked at him in the rear view mirror wondering if he was making a joke.  Nope.  He was dead serious.  To him at that moment it made perfect sense, and I said a little prayer of gratitude for him and the joy he brought me in that moment.  Then I laughed.  The rest of the way home.

A few other favorites:

Lately whenever we get in the car Asher slams his door and yells, "All Aboard!"

When walking fast running around the house he will yell, "Brakes!" or "Watch out for the buffers!" whenever he slows down.

He has also adopted a very shrill yelp that he is sure sounds just like a train whistle.  It sounds more like a dying cat, but it makes me smile whenever he does it.
