Three-year-old's often stump parents when it comes to the ebb and flow of their appetites. Our three-year-old Asher is no exception. If I thought really hard for a long time I might be able to see a pattern in Asher's seemingly erratic eating habits. Sometimes he nibbles a bite and other times he scarfs an entire plateful.
Tonight at dinner I had a break-through in deciphering the ebb and flow. We were all sitting around the table for the evening meal(delicious, if I do say so myself). Tiernan our toddler decided he was done eating and that it would be more fun to throw his food on the floor. My husband took his plate away and I set it on the table between my plate and Asher's plate.

A few seconds later out of the corner of my eye I see Asher's chubby little fingers quickly grab some food from Tiernan's plate. Then he looked to see if I was looking(I wasn't looking directly at him), smiled like he had just won the lottery, and stuffed the tasty morsel in his mouth. Over the course of the rest of dinner he cleaned Tiernan's plate and I strategically ignored him. It was a complete victory. For both of us.
So next time you need your little one to eat their dinner just strategically place a plate of food near them but make sure they know it isn't for them. It's a win/win with an extra point for reverse psychology. *smile*

score one for the adult,,,good one sister...keep me up to date on all your great tips.
I love my nephews! It's funny because Andrew will want Ashley's babyfood sometimes. Sure, you can eat hers all you want if you aren't going to eat yours!
I'm wanting to know what you ate for dinner. Any recipe you'd like to share?
I hadn't read this post before we had co-op at my house today. Tiernan was sitting at the table eating crackers and a banana. Ahser kept sneaking up and stealing Tiernan's food. Kids are silly!
That is so funny! I'm glad you both were victorious!! I hate they way their appitites change. One minute they're asking for 3rds, and the next, they turn into the birdboys and just pick.
Hey Trachelle! That is too funny! You are awesome to pick up on such little tricks. Thanks for the tip~I will have to try it next time with my picky eater!
