I saw a sign at Jo-Anne's Fabrics that had a great saying but an unfortunate color scheme and design so I decided to steal the wordage and make my own. I had seen this idea over at Joys of Home and decided to try that with a twist. So I started with a chunk of wood that my dear husband cut to size for me.

Then in Photoshop Elements (any word processing program will work) I typed what I wanted my sign to say and tweaked the font, size, color, etc. Then I printed it out using this printer fabric (found at Jo-Anne's Fabrics).

TaDAA! Super easy lemon squeezy. It turned out even better than I thought it would.

Then I painted my chunk of wood a lovely shade of chocolate brown with acrylic craft paint and a sponge painter. One coat was all it needed. Spray paint would be lovely too, but I was looking to use what I had on hand so craft paint it was.

I peeled the backing off my wordage and then pulled some threads off all the edges to make it slightly frayed.
I placed the fabric on the chunk of wood so it was mostly straight and then nailed some upholstry tacks or furniture nails (found at Lowe's for a dollar) in each corner of the fabric.

I thought about nailing a gorgeous wide satin ribbon to the back with the tacks to hang it from but then I realized I had no gorgeous wide satin ribbon. But it would be easy to do and I still might do it. In the mean time my new sign will keep Mr. and Mrs Tom Turkey company.
So, friends, what is your favorite Thanksgiving or Christmas Decoration? Do you have any handmade decorations that you love? Any recent decorations you have made or would like to make or buy?
